The H2@Scale integrated demonstration site supports multiple clean mobility applications. The project focus has been on light-duty vehicles, but with 350 and 700 bar fueling capability, drone fueling trailers, forklifts, buses, and medium-duty vehicles can be also be fueled.
Toyota Mirais
Toyota Motor North America has loaned UT three “Generation 2” Mirais for 27 months of driving by the H2@Scale project team. The vehicles are boosting awareness of hydrogen fuel cell technology throughout the greater Austin metropolitan area elsewhere in Texas and via road trips to San Antonio, Houston, and the Hill Country.
| Miles driven through December 2025 | 38,969 |
| H2 dispensed to Mirais | 521 kg |
| Average miles per kg | 75 mi/kg-H2 |
Private Vehicles
A Texas Commission on Environmental Quality grant makes the H2@Scale hydrogen fuelers available for private fuel cell vehicle owners to be filled by UT researchers. The project has fueled two Hyundai Nexos. One driver provides mileage data, and has logged 4153 miles on 75.5 kg-H2, for a fuel economy of 55 mi/kg-H2.
